Sensor is the main element of digital cameras, WEB cameras, technical
vision systems and analog devices. Charge-Coupled Devices (CCDs) have
been the dominant image sensors, but complementary metal oxide semiconductor
(CMOS) sensors are catching up fast, creating a big market opportunity.
Over the last few years, CMOS sensors have become increasingly common.
They are being used in medium and large format digital backs, in professional
digital SLRs, as well as some consumer cameras.
The market for CMOS image sensors has continued to grow in markets such
as PC cameras, toys and dual mode cameras and they begin entering the
digital still camera market, a stronghold of CCD technology. CMOS sensors
also have the capability to capture the majority of the next big market
for image sensors that is mobile phone cameras.
We identified image sensors as promising future volume opportunities
in digital consumer, medical, and industrial applications, as well as
a market in which the competitive landscape is still taking shape.
